DBG for Peace
The German Soil Science Society speaks up for peace and for the right of sovereignty of all states.
In this we stand closely together with scientists of all nationalities, religions and disciplines worldwide.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Ukraine who have to fear for their lives, as well as with the brave people in Russia who are risking their own freedom by standing up for peace.
The IUSS, concerned about recent events, expresses its wishes that the sovereignty of nations be respected, and stands in solidarity with Ukraine and those Russians who do not support the aggression being inflicted.
Refugees welcome to DBG!
The DBG offers free guest membership to people with refugee status. For further information please contact our office per mail (cc scientific director mail).
Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science
The Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science focuses on research into the interactions between soil and plants. The international journal covers the spectrum of plant nutrition and soil science across different scales, including both agroecosystems and natural systems. JPNSS has been an international leader in this field for over a century. The DBG is the publisher of this journal in co-operation with the German Society for Plant Nutrition.

European Confederation of Soil Science Societies
The DBG is a member of the European Confederation of Soil Science Societies (ECSSS). The aim of the ECSSS is to promote co-operation between national soil science societies in Europe and between European soil scientists in all areas of soil science and its applications and to support these societies in the performance of their activities.
The ECSSS is able to foster links between soil scientists, politicians and decision-makers, to make the voice of soil heard to the media and the general public as the "European Soil Voice" and to increase the interest and motivation of young people for soil.
The 8th international congress of the ECSSS "Eurosoil" will take place in Seville (Spain) in 2025. Further information can be found here: Website ECSSS.
International Union of Soil Sciences
The DBG is also a member of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS). The IUSS was founded on 19 May 1924 under the former name International Society of Soil Science (ISSS). The IUSS organises the World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) every four years. The last congress was held in Glasgow in 2022. In the coming years, Nanjing in 2026 and Toronto in 2030 are planned.
Almost 90 national and regional societies belong to the IUSS and a total of around 55,000 soil scientists are represented. The DBG was founded in 1926 as a section of the IUSS and is also active at international level.
