The working group „Soils in Schleswig-Holstein“ was established by M. Filipinski in 1993 and is dedicated to Commission V (Soil Genetics, Classification and Mapping) of the German Soil Science Society.
Speakers of the working group are currently H.Fleige (CAU Kiel) and B.Burbaum (LLUR SH). The working group offers lectures and excursions and is a platform for exchange of experience for soil scientists that are working at universities, state departments for geology/pedology, consulting engineers etc. in North Germany. For several years such meetings has been taken place together with the members of the “Bundesverband Boden” of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg (speaker: H.P. Blume).
Every three months the working group offers lectures about soil science topics. Furthermore, soil excursions in the region of Schleswig-Holstein are provided. For example, in the year 2009 a field trip to Gleyic Fluvisols of the marshland area was accomplished. Additionally symposia and information events dealing with soil topics are organized.
