Soil Chemistry

The commission II - soil chemistry - is one of the biggest scientific commissions of the German Soil Science Society (DBG). Soil chemistry addresses chemical, physicochemical and biochemical processes in soils. We investigate these processes in the context of soil functioning. We work on the mobility and bioavailability of plant nutrients and pollutants, the sequestration of organic matter in soils or on environmental risk assessment. Furthermore, the understanding of soil chemical processes is needed for analyzing soil formation, and for the characterization of soils as biotope. Biochemical processes build a direct bridge to the biology.
Contributing to the scientific basis of several DBG-commissions, we encourage the cooperation within the DBG. In addition we aim for cooperation with chemical and physical organizations, in order to exchange experience and methodological innovations. In order to inspire students and young scientists and to further scientific exchange we - the members of commission II - are organizing workshops and conferences.
The DBG relies on the participation and enthusiasm of its members. Your ideas and initiatives as well as information on ongoing activities are very welcome and important for us. This may comprise
Workshops, Summerschools, session topics for the biannual meeting of the DBG in 2015, suggestions for the homepage of the commission II, student activities, and suggested links to interesting internet pages etc.We are also grateful for information on activities of other organizations that could be of interest for the members of the commission II. Please contact the chair of the commission II.
